Donald Trump said Sunday that he would like to \u201ctake the oil in Iran\u201d and is considering seizing the export hub of Kharg Island, which is responsible for more than<strong> <\/strong>90% of class=\"body-graf\">In an interview with the Financial Times, Trump said his \u201cpreference would be to take the oil.\u201d <\/p>\n<div id=\"taboolaReadMoreBelow\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"anchor-0af557\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cTo be honest with you, my favorite thing is to take the oil in Iran but some stupid people back in the U.S. say: \u2018Why are you doing that?\u2019 But they\u2019re stupid people,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-cc7441\" class=\"body-graf\">The interview marks some of Trump\u2019s most direct comments about his thinking on what to do with Iran\u2019s oil. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-ded307\" class=\"body-graf\">In an interview with NBC News this month, Trump sidestepped answering whether he had plans to try to take Iran\u2019s oil. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-676c64\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cYou look at Venezuela,\u201d he said. \u201cPeople have thought about it, but it\u2019s too soon to talk about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-368c28\" class=\"body-graf\">In January, the U.S. captured Venezuelan leader Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and proceeded to take more control over the country\u2019s oil industry. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-c116df\" class=\"body-graf\">The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday night. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-f4d455\" class=\"body-graf\">Trump told the Financial Times on Sunday that the U.S. has \u201ca lot of options,\u201d including potentially taking Kharg Island, a rare island made of hard coral off Iran. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-49bc44\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cMaybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don\u2019t. We have a lot of options,\u201d Trump said. \u201cIt would also mean we had to be there [in Kharg Island] for a while.\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-8c8256\" class=\"body-graf\">Oil prices have skyrocketed around the globe as the war continues, with U.S. crude oil costing over $100 a barrel Sunday.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-8785a5\" class=\"body-graf\">Thousands more U.S. troops are heading to the Middle East, with the USS Tripoli arriving on Saturday as part of a complement of 3,500 troops.
