President Donald Trump declared Saturday that the U.S. is \u2018taking out tremendous amounts of oil\u2019 from Venezuela while vowing to \u2018take care\u2019 of Cuba\u2019s regime following America\u2019s focus on Iran.\u00a0
\nThe president, speaking at the Shield of the Americas Summit in Florida, prefaced his remarks by saying that since the January operation to capture former Venezuelan dictator Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, the administration has \u2018been working closely with the new president of Venezuela,\u00a0Delcy\u00a0Rodriguez,\u2019 and, \u2018she\u2019s\u00a0doing\u00a0a great job\u00a0working with us.\u2019\u00a0
\n\u2018And\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0taking out tremendous amounts of oil.\u00a0They\u2019re\u00a0making more money now than\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0ever made, ever made. We have the big oil companies in. They are\u00a0making more money,\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0getting some,\u2019 Trump said. \u2018They\u2019re\u00a0getting a lot.\u00a0They\u2019re\u00a0making more money now than\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0ever made in the history of their country.\u2019\u00a0
\n\u2018And\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0pleased to say that this week we have formally recognized the Venezuelan government.\u00a0We\u2019ve\u00a0actually legally\u00a0recognized them.\u00a0We have also just reached a historic gold deal\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0called the gold deal with Venezuela, to allow our two countries to work together to\u00a0facilitate\u00a0the sale of Venezuelan gold and other minerals,\u2019 Trump continued, describing a license issued by the Treasury Department Friday that prohibits people and companies from Iran, North Korea, Russia and Cuba from doing business with Minerven \u2013 Venezuela\u2019s state-owned gold mining company \u2013 among other measures.
\n\u2018As we achieve a historic transformation in Venezuela,\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0also looking forward to the\u00a0great change\u00a0that will soon be coming to Cuba. Cuba\u2019s at the end of the line,\u2019 Trump also said. \u2018They\u2019re\u00a0very much at the end of the line. They have no\u00a0money,\u00a0they have no oil. They have a bad philosophy. They have a bad regime\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0been bad for a long time. And they used to get the money from Venezuela. They get the oil from Venezuela, but they\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have any money from Venezuela. They\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have any oil,\u2019 Trump added.\u00a0
\nTrump in January had declared a national emergency via an executive order over Cuba, accusing the communist regime of aligning with hostile foreign powers and terrorist groups while moving to punish countries that supply the island nation with oil.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump said Saturday that Cuba is \u2018negotiating with [Secretary of State] Marco [Rubio] and myself and some others. And I would think a deal would be made very easily with Cuba.\u2019
\n\u2018But Cuba is in its last moments of life as it was.\u00a0It\u2019ll\u00a0have a great new life, but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0in its last moments of life, the way it is,\u2019 the president added.\u00a0
\nThe State Department described the Shield of the Americas Summit in Doral as a gathering of the \u2018strongest likeminded allies in our hemisphere to promote freedom, security, and prosperity in our region.\u2019\u00a0
\nTrump said America\u2019s \u2018focus right now is on Iran,\u2019 but \u2018many of you have come today, and they say, \u2018I hope you can take care of Cuba because you\u2019ve had problems with Cuba, right? You mentioned.\u2019
\n\u2018I was surprised, but, four of you said, actually, \u2018could you do us a favor? Take care of Cuba.\u2019 I\u2019ll take care of it, okay?\u2019 Trump said, garnering applause.\u00a0\u00a0
