Dan Hooker responds to death threats he received ahead of UFC Paris: ‘Nothing they can do but shut the f*ck up’

Dan Hooker has never been one to shy away from a challenge, and stepping into the lions den for UFC Paris is simply another day at the office for the veteran lightweight. When the promotion asked him to headline the event against local favorite Salahdine Parnasse, Hooker jumped at the chance without hesitation. While Parnasse may not be a global superstar yet, he carries immense weight in France following successful title runs in KSW, and that local adoration quickly turned toxic toward Hooker once the bout was official. The New Zealander revealed that his social media feeds were suddenly flooded with aggressive messages, including several explicit death threats from fans eager to protect their hometown hero.

Rather than being intimidated by the hostility, Hooker is treating the vitriol as fuel for his fire. Speaking with MMA Fighting, he admitted that he actually enjoys the pre-fight tension, noting that people often talk big before a match only to go silent once the result is decided. For Hooker, these messages are essentially receipts he intends to collect after he secures a victory on Saturday night. He believes that making bold predictions now leaves critics vulnerable to hindsight, and he welcomes the noise as part of the spectacle of fighting in enemy territory.

Interestingly, the backlash sparked an unexpected wave of positivity. Following his comments about the threats, many French fans reached out to apologize and express their genuine excitement for seeing a high-level veteran make the trip to Paris. This shift in tone has led Hooker to believe that while there will certainly be boos when he enters the octagon, he isn’t walking into purely hostile waters. Instead, he feels there is a widespread appetite for a great fight regardless of who walks away with the win.

Ultimately, Hooker remains focused on the man inside the cage rather than the thousands screaming from the stands. He dismissed any notion that fan intimidation could impact his performance, bluntly stating that no matter how many people in attendance might wish him harm, they cannot physically intervene in the fight. In his view, all those vocal supporters will eventually have to sit back and watch silently as he dismantles Parnasse. With years of experience under his belt, Hooker sees himself as the composed professional facing off against a newcomer overwhelmed by pressure and flashing lights.
